Social Media 101 – iPhone Applications

Published on Jul 25, 2009   //  Social Media

socialmedia1011If your like me you will want to tweet when on the road. There are lots of iPhone applications out there and I have not tried all of them but here are a list of the one’s I have tried. All are available in the iTunes store.

Tweetie
This application is the one I end up going back to each time after using the others. I like the fact that I can update it when I want and it works when I tell it to update. This one works with multiple accounts and has lots of useful features. I wish I could make groups with it as my wish to make it better.

Tweetdeck
I use tweetdeck as my main GUI for twitter on my computer and was eager to use it on my iPhone when it came out. I find the interface a little clunky and it does not update when I want it to but when it wants to. I also find that I run out of API requests when I leave it and come back again. This application does have some cool features though like groups and saved searches that you can store from your desktop’s version of tweetdeck.

Twinkle
This appication is the same as Tweetie but has ads. I prefer an ad free version.

What appliation do you like to tweet with on the iPhone?

Social Media 101 – Twitter Poll

Published on Jul 25, 2009   //  Social Media

socialmedia1011From time to time I will do something called a twitter poll. I will ask a general question out to my twitter followers and see what they think. I even went so far to make a script so I can pull those replies into a post easily.

Twitter is a great resource of information so use it when you can to find out things you don’t know.

Today I asked “What desktop software do you use to tweet? and why?” and here is the responses I got…

LaLampen @bluefur I use Tweetie for my computer because it’s easy to use and it doesn’t look as cluttered compared to tweetdeck.
DanielleLemay @bluefur I don’t use any…but will need one soon…twitter is like a dominos game!
lissaann @bluefur use Tweetie. I found it the easiest for the Mac and the ads aren’t intrusive if you don’t register it.
BigAl11419 @bluefur I use TweetDeck, Saw Guy Kawasaki use it during a presentation and fell in love with the interface and functionality.
curtismchale @bluefur tweetdeck for multiple accounts and multiple columns and groups to track the important people
car4dave @bluefur I use twhirl but find myself using website a lot.. on mobile I like pocketwit and even use at home like now.
CathyBrowne @bluefur I alternate between the Web and Tweetdeck. But for scheduled chats like #journchat, I use Tweetgrid to follow @replies and the chat
10buckstoo @bluefur It’s not desktop, but we’re using HootSuite.
ChefPatrick @bluefur I don’t use any desktop software. Out of everything I like the web interface the most.
jhirsch01 @bluefur TweetDeck, because it was the first one I tried and it has a nice interface that keeps track of everything for me.
bsainsbury @bluefur Twitter Poll: twitter desktop software = tweetdeck .. allows me to organize my inbound tweets logically http://bit.ly/BTcz7
LeonvanTubbergh @bluefur TwitterFox
kimappleton RT @bluefur: Twitter Poll: What do desktop software do you use to tweet? and why? [TweetDeck, love it]
rogerajohnson @bluefur I use TwitZap simply because it’s web based & not desktop

Social Media 101 – Tweet After Purchase Link

Published on Jul 25, 2009   //  Social Media
Off

socialmedia1011

Remember the old adage a happy customer will tell 1 friend?

A few days ago I started adding a Tweet about your purchase link to my final order page. I have already seen a few people click it and send out the automatic tweet.

The nice thing is that is it is free advertising for you on their twitter stream. If you include an @yourusername then they will also know your on twitter and of course follow you.

The code for adding this link is almost dummy proof so here is how you add it…

Using WordPress

Type out your Text and add the following link

http://twitter.com/?status=I just bought xyz from @yourusername. You should try it to http://yourlink.com.

Using HTML

Just add the following and adjust as you need

Tweet about your <a href=”http://twitter.com/?status=I just bought xyz from @yourusername. You should try it to http://yourlink.com.”>purchase</a> on twitter.

If you have any type of thank you page think about how you can add this little link to promote yourself to your customers followers.
