Published on Apr 3, 2011   //  BlueFur Customer of the Week

We could all use a good laugh sometimes. After all, laughter is the best medicine. For that, you might turn to comedian Lars Callieou. His website is jam-packed with comedy.

Lars kicked off his comedy career in May 2003 and he hasn’t looked back since. He was named the Funniest New Comedian in Edmonton in 2004 and he has shared the stage with such notable names as Russell Peters and Mike MacDonald.

To get a good sense of his brand of comedy, be sure to check out the videos he has hosted on his site, as well as his podcasts. Lars can be next seen at a corporate function later this month, but you can always book him for your own event or comedy festival too.

BlueFur Customer of the Week: Republicans Abroad

Published on Mar 27, 2011   //  BlueFur Customer of the Week

Before we get started with today’s blog post, it’s worth noting that we here at BlueFur are not officially aligned or affiliated with any political party. We simply support the democratic process and encourage all of you to ensure your voice gets heard.

As such, if you happen to be a Republican living in Canada, you may be interested to hear about Republicans Abroad. This organization aims to promote voter registration and the casting of absentee ballots by Americans in Canada. With the 2012 Presidential election just over the horizon, this information could prove very useful.

Not surprisingly, the organization also promotes Republican principles. If you would like to become a member of Republicans Abroad, you can check out the membership enrollment form on their website. In the interest of fairness, it’s quite possible that a Democratic Party equivalent also exists.

BlueFur Customer of the Week: Kestrel Books

Published on Mar 20, 2011   //  BlueFur Customer of the Week

It’s easy enough to walk into a major bookstore chain and find the new releases at a reasonable price. However, these major chains may not be the best place to look for books that are older, out of print, or otherwise rarer.

For that, you may be better off turning to a store like Kestrel Books. Located on the west side of Vancouver, this book store is well known in the neighborhood as a “knowledgeable, reliable dealer of used books.” They carry a general inventory, as well as “rare, fine, out of print, and antiquarian books.”

A big part of building up this inventory is thanks to the fact that Kestrel buys back books from the general public. You can come by any day of the week and they’ll pay you either in store credit (50%) or in cash (40%). You can also follow them on Twitter for the latest news and deals.

While hockey and snowboarding might be more popular and get more attention in the mainstream media, a very significant number of people are very much interested in curling. And the Terrace Curling Club is there to fulfill that interest.

Following up on the widespread coverage during the 2010 Winter Olympics, an increasingly large number of people want to see what curling is all about. If you happen to be out in Northern British Columbia, this club is a great place for families to get together for a game or two.

Two bonspiels have already happened this year, but there is another one already scheduled for later this month. The Mens Loggers Bonspiel is set to take place from March 25 to March 27 of this year. You can also check the site for open pricing of the facility.
