When it comes to Twitter, there are more than a few different clients and software that you can use to manage your account. Many of them come with very robust features that go well beyond what you would be able to achieve through the basic Twitter website. One such desktop client is Hootsuite, which is also available as an iPhone application.
For the computer-based version, you’ll find that it can be a very powerful tool in your social media arsenal. It can handle other networks beyond Twitter, like Facebook, but we’ll focus on Twitter for the purposes of this blog post. One of the first things you’ll notice is that you can manage multiple Twitter profiles with Hootsuite. This is great if your company has different accounts for different arms and departments. You can also add “team members” to individual Twitter profiles, allowing multiple employees to update the same account.
In addition to regular functions, like appending images and other shortening links, Hootsuite can also be used to schedule your Twitter updates in the future. Say, for example, that you’d like to announce a sale on a certain product, but you won’t have the time to send out the update right when the sale begins. You can pre-write and time-stamp the update, just as you would with a WordPress blog post.
Similarly, Hootsuite allows you to import RSS feeds, automatically sending out a Twitter update when a new item is added to the feed. This would work well for a company blog like the one we have here at BlueFur. With multiple columns, multiple accounts, and countless features, Hootsuite can be a great way to help manage your Twitter marketing strategies.
