Business 101: Fundraising and Marketing

I haven’t paid full price for a movie ticket at Cineplex Odeon or Famous Players for a number of years. That’s because I always take advantage of the “Admit One” sales that come up from time to time.

As you may or may not already know, schools and other charitable groups can sometimes sell these movie vouchers at a reduced rate to raise money. From what I understand, they can purchase these tickets at a significantly reduced bulk price and then flip them to the public for a profit. The proceeds go to fund a school trip (or whatever they need) and the “customers” get cheaper movie tickets.

This is fantastic for Cineplex and Famous Players too. If it were not for these cheaper Admit One vouchers, I probably wouldn’t go to nearly as many movies each year. Famous Players and Cineplex get more customer through the door and, consequently, they have a greater opportunity to make money through concession sales and the like. It also helps with attendance numbers, which is good for selling the pre-movie advertising.

Yes, they are making less money on each ticket sold, but the resulting revenue potential by having more customers through the door makes the effort worth it. Have you considered using a similar strategy for your business? Charities raise funds, customers get a deal, and you get more business.
