The original Sony VAIO P was a premium subnotebook in a world filled with netbooks. It was decidedly more expensive than many of its seemingly equivalent counterparts, but it was a decidedly more exclusive device. Sony has now updated the line with the introduction of the VAIO P11S1E.
The subnotebook looks much like the version that preceded it, except it’s being offered in a range of eye-catching colors. The specs have been updated as well. You can expect an Intel Atom Z540 processor (1.86GHz), 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 64GB solid state drive, and Windows 7 Home Premium. Sony stuck with the smaller, wider form factor, opting for an 8-inch 1600×768 display.
One of the more notable additions is the accelerometer. You can flip through images and PDFs by tilting the Sony VAIO P. Also, you can hold it on its side, like a book, and flip through pages using the trackball. This is probably a better experience for reading e-books. Rounding out the specs are WiFi, GPS, digital compass, SD slot, two USB ports, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, webcam, 3G connectvity, and 5-hour battery life.
Choose from orange, green, pink, black, or white. The launch date should be early next month with prices starting at around $1,080.
