Remember the old adage a happy customer will tell 1 friend?

A few days ago I started adding a Tweet about your purchase link to my final order page. I have already seen a few people click it and send out the automatic tweet.

The nice thing is that is it is free advertising for you on their twitter stream. If you include an @yourusername then they will also know your on twitter and of course follow you.

The code for adding this link is almost dummy proof so here is how you add it…

Using WordPress

Type out your Text and add the following link

http://twitter.com/?status=I just bought xyz from @yourusername. You should try it to http://yourlink.com.

Using HTML

Just add the following and adjust as you need

Tweet about your <a href=”http://twitter.com/?status=I just bought xyz from @yourusername. You should try it to http://yourlink.com.”>purchase</a> on twitter.

If you have any type of thank you page think about how you can add this little link to promote yourself to your customers followers.

What is Team Diabetes? Guest Post from @buzzbishop

Published on Jul 25, 2009   //  Events

teamdiabetesbuzzTeam Diabetes is the adventure of a lifetime. A chance to give back to the community by raising money and awareness about this disease that affects more than 1 million Canadians. While the fundraising grows community spirit and awareness, the training for the marathon or half marathon or hike or cycling event you’ve registered for keeps you healthy and increases your chances of not having to live with diabetes in the first place.

Numerous times a year Team Diabetes organizes marathons around the world. Greece, Hawaii, Iceland, Prague, Easter Island, Victoria, Vancouver, Rio de Janeiro and more are on the calendar. Each marathon happens at a different time, so many teams are being joined simultaneously. @Bluefur‘s goal is to raise $6100 to be a member of Team Diabetes Rio and complete the marathon in June 2010.

If you’re interested in joining Team Diabetes, check out the upcoming registration deadlines or visit the Team Diabetes website for more information:

While fall events in Greece and Hawaii are now closed, there is still time to join other upcoming Team Diabetes events. Don’t delay because the registration deadlines are rapidly approaching.

Walt Disney World – January 2010. Register by THIS WEEKEND
Royal Victoria Marathon – October 11, 2009. Register by August 21, 2009.
Toronto Marathon – October 18, 2009. Register by September 4, 2009.

Learn more about Team Diabetes at the following events:
Edmonton Marathon Family Festival Expo – August 14 – 16, 2009
Canfit Pro Toronto – August 21 & 22, 2009

Be sure to visit the Team Diabetes booth at these events. Our staff and volunteers will be there to answer any questions you may have about Team Diabetes and any of our upcoming event destinations.

There are other Team Diabetes marathons planned for 2010 in London, Iceland and the one Bluefur will be tackling, Rio de Janeiro:

Rio de Janeiro, also known as the Marvelous City, is a place where people live life to the fullest. It is most famous for its annual Carnival celebration, but Rio is just as lively in the off-season, thriving year-round on sun, samba, sport, and shopping. You can play on Copacabana’s 4-kilometre playground, scour one of Rio’s many fabulous boutiques or indulge in Brazilian barbecue at a local Churrasco.

Participating in the Rio Marathon is the best way to enjoy Brazil’s spectacular landscape. You will run by world famous beaches as the marathon starts at Recreio dos Bandeirantes Beach, goes along Barra da Tijuca, Sao Conrado, Leblon, Ipanema, Copacabana, Botafogo and ends at Flemengo Beach. All finishers receive an official T-shirt, a ‘goodie’ bag, and a finisher’s medal. In addition to the full and half marathons, the event also features a 6k Race for Peace which will be held at Flemengo Beach.

Be sure to contact your local Team Diabetes Coordinator before January 8, 2010 for additional information and to register for this exotic event destination.

In addition to support with your fundraising, you’ll also get personalized coaching from the Running Room to help you tackle the training. It’s nearly a year away, but that was the time frame I worked within for my Easter Island fundraising. Having a long lead time gives you 6 months to worry about the money and then 6 months to worry about the training.

Virgin Radio will be launching a recruitment campaign for Team Diabetes Rio in November, I’d love it if you got yourself a headstart on the group and joined Bluefur and I wearing a thong on Copacabana!

Buzz Bishop is the cohost of The Rush on Virgin Radio Vancouver and an ambassador for Team Diabetes. He has run marathons in Iceland and Easter Island and is next headed with Team Diabetes to Rio in June 2010. Follow Buzz on twitter.

Social Media 101 – Future of Sp@m

Published on Jul 25, 2009   //  Social Media

socialmedia1011

I have seen the future of twitter and if things do not change then we may find ourselves fighting spam at every turn. I have found this script which searches for keywords and sends an @ to the person based on those keywords. These scripts can be found in many places and are already in use. Don’t believe me? Type a tweet about hosting. I get 2-3 spams @ me right away.

There was a rummor before that twitter was going to make it so you don’t see anyone else’s @’s unless you follow them as well. I will try to explain…

I follow @bob, @dick and @harry.

@bob tweets to something to @harry and I can see @bob’s tweet.

@harry tweets to @sally but because I do not follow @sally I do not see it.

This new system of how @’s would work could eliminate the future @spam’s that are on the horizon. There was a lot of push back to twitter to not do these types of changes to the system as it would cause not to see conversations which we could have commented on and find new people to follow.

What is your thoughts on this?

Social Media 101 – Blip.fm

Published on Jul 25, 2009   //  Social Media

One of the social media sites I have been enjoying using is Blip.fm. This site allows you to find and share music with your followers both on Blip and through twitter.

I use Blip.fm to send out a Song of the Day once a day. In doing so I have gained over 80 followers on Blip.fm.

To use blip.fm register for an account and fill in your profile and set an avatar.

Once your done then you can start searching for songs you like and blip them.

If you set up your Blip.fm profile with your twitter account then every time you blip a new song it should be posted to twitter and your followers will see it.

Like everything  I suggest you blip to your twitter account sparingly once or twice in a row are good but doing a 100 song marathon might cause you to lose followers. On the flip side it might get you new followers that are interested in your songs.

I find that when I do a #songoftheday hashtag on my song that it gets retweeted more often.

Try out Blip.fm today and see how addictive it can be.

Social Media 101 – Ping.fm

Did you know there are over 40 social media sites that allow you to update your status?

It’s a lot and although you do not use them all it might be a good idea to start. Every social media site has it’s own group of followers and type of people it attracts.

Ping.fm is a free service that allows you to update 40 social sites all at one. So instead of posting to 40 different site individually you can post once at ping.fm and all of your 40 social sites are updated at once.

I like ping.fm because the interface is easy to use and makes life easy for updating.

To get started register for an account. Again fill in your profile like you always should.

Once you have done that you can add your 40 networks to  your account.

Then you can post and your information will now be decimated out to the world.

Social Media 101 – Being Retweated

Published on Jul 25, 2009   //  Social Media

socialmedia1011

If you have not been Retweated (RT) yet then today you should look at how you can become Retweeted.

If your asking why? Retweeting is when someone else takes your tweet and reposts it their followers. So if you have 100 followers and someone with 1000 followers Retweet your tweet then approximately 1100 followers have now seen that tweet. Now if you get multiple people Retweeting then you get more exposure.

To get Retweeted you need to create something worthy of being Retweeting. Saying you just woke up will usually not get you Retweeted. Things that regularly get Retweeted are…

- Quotes
– Tips
– Important News
– Contests

You can also ask people to retweet your post by adding (PLS RT) to your tweet. I do not suggest asking to often as it will be like the boy who cried wolf syndrome.

So today try posting a Tip or Quote that is something you know and see what happens.
