Netbooks have quickly become all the rage, because they are reasonably affordable and offer a true laptop experience in a very compact package. Whereas some people may prefer the slightly smaller stature of nine-inch netbooks like the Dell Mini 9, others may want something just a touch bigger.
Adding to the popular Asus Eee PC line is the newly announced Asus Eee PC 1000HE. This netbook gets a nice 10-inch widescreen display, but the key ingredient here relates to the “HE” part of its name. This refers to the Asus Hybrid Engine, a power management system that ups the performance as needed and conserves the battery when possible. As a result, Asus claims that the 1000HE boasts a 9.5 hour battery life!
Taking a look at the feature list, you get a chiclet-style keyboard, Intel Atom N280 processor, Bluetoooth, Wi-Fi, 160GB hard drive, and 10GB of online space. The Asus Eee PC 1000HE has a suggested retail price of US$399 and is available for pre-order now.

Hi,
That is one sweet upgrade. 9.5 hour battery life? Even if it doesnt quite reach that, i’ll gladly take 8 hours or so. That is awesome. I’ve got my eye on it along with the Acer and the MSi Wind. I believe these two have a built-in hard drive, correct? Or do they all carry the online drives (or SSI drives) only.
Thanxs for the update.

Bear in mind that the claimed 9.5 battery life comes with a few caveats. That’s with 40% brightness on the screen and with Wi-Fi turned off.
For most netbooks, you can choose between a SSD (solid state drive) or a HDD (hard disk drive). The former is more efficient but offers less space, whereas the latter has a higher capacity. I found the build quality on the Acer Aspire One to be a little lacking. The MSI Wind is better, but the Eee PC is still the best line in my eyes.

this has great features but is selling at such a low price. I think it’s by far the best budget pc out on the market currently.
