Twitter Question of the Week

Posted on January 10th, 2009

This week on twitter I asked what would you do for a free server?

Here is what was said…

leedman
leedman @bluefur yo Gary… for a free server, let me build local community sites that will make a difference.
Jeremy Latham
jeremylatham @bluefur I’d put hosted by Bluefur at the bottom of each page on every site ;)
Dan Udey
danudey @bluefur Depends on how good the server is, really.
leedman
leedman @bluefur I’d build a community site for a specific local cause and host it pro-bono in thanks for the free server.
Tris Hussey
trishussey @bluefur for my own server? No public stunts, but advertising for sure.
midspot
midspot @bluefur depends on what specs ;-)
liamm
liamm @bluefur I’d eat a Klondike Bar! (infinitely recursive chatter ensues)
David Peralty
brandingdavid @bluefur – I would record a video personally thanking everyone in the company that provided it to me. And Twitter about it every day!

So what would you do for a free server?

Pretty Lame Gary… very very sad. Of course BlueFur would be advertised – no? It’s what you’d do for or with the server that has merit. Am I just getting old and cranky?

There are other things that we could use other then advertising.

If you want to set up a site emal me and I will help you with the hosting end my friend (it might not be a server).

I volunteered an idea recently and have some people already interested and rallying to the cause. A community site for the Dance community, prompted from the Ballet BC fallout. A site that would link people and resources that connect school age interest up to the professionals in the field that would encourage and support the development of the dance community and dancing arts culture.

Another I’ve been toying with follows what I see re: DTES – rather than all this homeless and street issue stuff being about these organizations and people promoting themselves, a vehicle for the street peeps themselves to blog and post and engage directly online. This one is still rather nebulous.

I’m also open to ideas so if you feel that you also have some dreams you’d like to see a reality for the Vancouver community-at-large I would love to hear about it.
