Weekend Projects - Count Down to Christmas
Posted on October 11th, 2008
Six weeks down and only 10 weeks until Christmas. Last week we continued talking about advertising with a focus on alternative marketing methods. This week we will wrap up this series with a focus on traditional mainstream marketing options and update on how sales have been.
Step 6 - Getting the Word Out (cont…)
Most people who have online stores only use online methods of advertising and skip the more traditional methods of advertising. The reason most people skip the traditional marketing is that they not as targeted and economically sound. For example a newspaper will tell you that it will take 10 ads for you to get any business at all. That seems like a lot of money for little to no conversion on sales. Again some business will do better then others using traditional marketing so here are some options…
| Advertising Method | Details | |
| TV | If you have a price and product that appeals to the masses then TV is the best bang for you buck. TV is the most expensive form of advertising. It almost impossible to target a market with TV commercials. | |
| Radio | Radio is cheaper then TV and can be targeted to specific geographical location. It is still hard to target a specific market but easier then TV. | |
| With so many places to print an ad these days print is becoming less effective. Print does allow you to target a specific market but there is no way to ensure that people view your ad. Where with TV and Radio you know your marketing will be heard or seen. | ||
| Fax | This regulated form of marketing is effective as long as your product is geared towards business. Be sure to read your local fax blasting regulations before doing it and avoid fax blasting lists. | |
| Networking | Your local town will have a Chamber of Commerce, Business Improvement Society and/or Business Networking Group. One of the most effective methods of marketing is through referrals and face to face relationship building. |
Any other traditional methods you have used that worked well for you that we missed?
Sales Update
To accomplish our goal of $500 profit before Christmas we will need to sell 25 Vado’s. To date using just word of mouth and now both paid and free advertising I have sold 30. That means we are done and have completed our goal.
Wrap Up
As we have had no interest in our community to participate in our project we will start a new project next week.
