Great Gadgets: Asus M930 Smartphone

Published on Jun 16, 2008   //  Gadgets

If you send a lot of emails while away from the office, having a full QWERTY keyboard on your cell phone is an absolute must. You can get this mobile email fix from a myriad of different handhelds including the BlackBerry Curve and the Motorola Q9h. One company that many North Americans neglect when it comes to Windows Mobile smartphones is Asus. Yes, you may know Asus better for its Eee PC line of subnotebooks, but they’ve got smartphones too.

The Asus M930 smartphone is perhaps one of the best equipped to tackle the needs of mobile professionals. That’s because this business-minded device comes with both a standard numeric keypad and a full QWERTY keyboard. It opens up like a book. When in its closed position, you get the experience of a standard bar-style cell phone. Open it up and you get a secondary display and a full keyboard. This makes sending emails and text messages, as well as tracking tasks and appointments, a whole lot easier.

Other features include tri-band GSM/EDGE, HSDPA, Windows Mobile 6 Standard, integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 2 megapixel camera, and memory expansion via the microSDHC slot.

Weekend Projects – Social Bookmarking

Weekend Project

Last week we covered how to redirect traffic based on their country. This week we will cover adding an ‘Add This’ button to our site to grow social bookmarking traffic. If you are not making it easy for people to bookmark your site on the various social bookmarking sites then you are missing a large amount of potential traffic.

To create the ‘Add This’ button  you need to create an account. Then once your account is created you can select the type of button you wish to use. There are various styles and options for the type of sites you might have to choose a button. Once you select everything the way you want it click on Get Your Free Button and it will output code like this…

<!– AddThis Button BEGIN –>
<script type=”text/javascript”>addthis_pub  = ‘bluefur’;</script>
<a href=”http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php” onmouseover=”return addthis_open(this, ”, ‘[URL]‘, ‘[TITLE]‘)” onmouseout=”addthis_close()” onclick=”return addthis_sendto()”><img src=”http://s9.addthis.com/button1-addthis.gif” width=”125″ height=”16″ border=”0″ alt=”" /></a><script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://s7.addthis.com/js/152/addthis_widget.js”></script>
<!– AddThis Button END –>

Paste that code in to your site where you want the social bookmarking button to be. Save that file and upload it by FTP to your account. I suggest for maximum exposure that the button be visible near the top of your page and not cluttered by other buttons if possible.

If you get stuck let me know in the comments.

In The Sphere: iPhone 3G, Street Meat, and a Truck

Today’s roundup of great posts from the blogosphere provides quite the eclectic mix. We’ve got a little something for the adventurous foodies out there, a little something for people who are interested in making money online, and three other posts that will surely keep you entertained (and thinking) over the weekend. Read up and enjoy!

To kick off this edition of In The Sphere, we turn to Four Reasons Why to learn why you shouldn’t buy a 3G iPhone. Everyone seems to be getting pretty excited about the second-generation iPhone, especially in Canada where it will finally be made available on an official basis, but there are reasons why you may not want it too. Steve Jobs would not approve of this list.

While WordPress bloggers have been able to enjoy in-text advertising for some time, Tyler Ingram notes that Kontera is finally adding some support for the Blogger and Drupal users in the audience. If you’ve been using either platform and have been feeling a little left out, the time has no arrived for your Kontera adventures. Another way to make money online is probably a good thing.

International travel can reveal some rather amazing things. Jon Lee recently found himself in Beijing, a city where he was exposed to some rather exceptional street meat. Have you ever tried crunching on a scorpion? How about a seahorse or a deep fried silkworm cocoon? Those are certainly different than the corn dogs we usually enjoy on a stick!

A major measure of a blog’s success is its number of RSS subscribers. Willly Franzen describes a very simple way to increase blog subscribers by 254%. Wording can go a long way, because less savvy Internet users may not understand the meaning of “subscribe” the way that more advanced users do.

Are you in the market for a new truck? Even though gas prices continue to rise, Optempo still recognizes that some people need a decent working truck. Check out his review of the 2008 Toyota Tundra SR5 4×2 to get the full scoop on what this truck has to offer and why you may (or may not) want to buy it.
