Business 101: Clear Payment Terms

Depending on the type of business that you run, you may require cash on delivery or you may be able to send out invoices at the completion of a particular project. Alternatively, you may also be able to send out invoices at set time intervals for clients with whom you have a continuing relationship. If you are sending out invoices to your customers, it is important that you lay out very clear payment terms.

Generally speaking, there are three critical elements to the payment terms to any given invoice. First is the due date for payment. If you see an invoice that says “net 30″, for example, that means that full payment of the total amount owing should be made within thirty days. The second element makes the first element more specific. Is it 30 days from the date of the invoice? From the date the goods or services were delivered? That’s why payment terms should not be stated simply as “net 30″, but they should rather by stated in a way similar to “net 30 from date of invoice.”

The third element describes what happens if payment is not received by the due date. It is under this portion that you describe any sort of interest terms that may be attached to your invoice. With the interest rate, be sure to describe whether the percentage applies on a monthly basis or an annual basis. As you can imagine, 2% interest annually is quite different than 2% interest monthly.

Community Evolved Hosting – Google Apps

Evolution

I know that some of you use Google Apps for either personal or business use.

This gave me an idea! With each new customer we could create an automatic sub domain to point to their own Google Apps. I found out you can create an API to generate an account for Google Apps as long as you are a Google Apps Small Business Solution Provider.

For current customers we will setup a Customer Resource Center form to request the setup if we decided to move forward.

Last week we were accepted as a Google Apps Small Business Solution Provider.

Time to hear your opinion on the direction.

Should we create an API to add Google accounts for new users and have a standard sub domain to point to it? If so, what sub domain would you use?

Great Gadgets: MSI Wind Subnotebook

Published on May 19, 2008   //  Gadgets

By and large, the average consumer is not aware of the alternatives to the Asus Eee PC. They love its incredibly compact form factor and affordable price point, but they may neglect to notice competitors like the HP Mini-Note 2133. Another formidable entry into the world of subnotebooks is the stylish and small MSI Wind.

Set to be available with either a Linux operating system or Windows XP, the MSI Wind is slightly larger than the current 7-inch Asus Eee PC. The MSI Wind will come in two sizes: one with an 8.9-inch display and the other with a 10-inch display. As it stands, only the 10-inch version will be coming to the United States, but you will likely be able to purchase the 8.9-inch version from your favorite importer.

The specs will vary a little between the SuSE Linux model and the Windows XP model, but both will come with the new 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, an 80GB hard drive (instead of the flash-based memory found on the Eee), 1.3 megapixel webcam, and 4-in-1 card reader. The Linux version comes bundled with a 2.5-hour battery, whereas the Windows version gets a larger battery for 5.5 hours of life. The XP version also gets twice as much RAM, clocking in with one full gigabyte.

Both versions of the MSI Wind subnotebook are scheduled to launch next month. The Linux model and Windows model will retail for $399 and $549, respectively.
