Branding 101 – The Law of the Company

Published on Apr 4, 2008   //  Marketing Tips

Branding 101The law of the company in regards to branding is that ‘the company is a company and the brand is the brand’. Do not let the brand be overshadowed by your company in an effort to make your company look good.

Procter and Gamble have 1000′ of house hold brands like Tide. Procter and Gamble do an excellent job of marketing the brands and not spending much money on marketing their own company.

What is amusing is that Procter and Gamble’s companies like Gillette do not follow this law. Every year they introduce two or three products all of them unique and distinct but if you look at the product the word Gillette is listed before the actual brand. Would the Fusion shaver not been as good or sold as well if it did not have the world Gillette at the beginning?

Brands should be built strong on their own without the need to use a company name. Whether you provide a service or products next time you market be sure to brand the product or service and not the company.

  • But the brand is Gillette not Fusion. Tide, Febreze all do the same thing, they are the products. Your right if they put Procter & Gamble in front of everything.

  • Actually in this case Gillette is the company that produces many different products. Each product should be branded by itself according to the 22 laws of branding.
