Marketing 101: Earning Credibility

Posted on April 3rd, 2008

Your reputation is of great importance when you are trying to develop a brand and build up your business. You want potential customers to not only respect you, but you also want them to trust you. This is particularly important if you are offering any sort of professional services, because people want to know that they can rely on you to do the job and do it well. You probably wouldn’t hand off your income tax information to an unproven accountant, so you shouldn’t expect your potential customers to automatically trust you.

This will depend largely on your industry, but a good way to develop trust and establish yourself as an expert in your field is to write educational articles for trade magazines and other publications that reach your target demographic. This aims to improve your credibility and people will turn to you because they know that you know what you’re doing. Given the nature of the web, you may not even need to turn to official trade magazines.

A great way to get some free publicity and marketing is to write guest posts that can be published on popular blogs. Gary writes content on John Chow dot Com from time to time, and this helps to establish BlueFur as a reliable and human web hosting company. They don’t just see BlueFur as a web host, because they know about Gary Jones and they trust his judgement.

Get your name out there and earn some credibility. It could prove to be your best marketing strategy.
