Great Gadgets: Dell Latitude XT Convertible Tablet

Published on Mar 24, 2008   //  Gadgets

They say that the Dell Latitude XT is the world’s thinnest convertible Tablet PC. The idea with a device like this is that you can get the traditional notebook experience when you flip the Latitude XT open, typing away on the QWERTY keyboard just like you would on a regular laptop. At the same time, you can rotate and fold down the display to get the utility of a Tablet PC, complete with a reasonably-sized 12.1-inch touchscreen display.

Starting at just 3.6 pounds, the Latitude XT is Dell’s first official attempt at the convertible tablet market and it seems that they have done quite well for themselves. You can opt for either a regular or outdoor-viewable display, there’s one-touch screen orientation, pen and touch inputs, premium wireless, and optional media base. The XT has been optimized for Windows Vista.

Other notable specs include ATI Radeon X1250 UMA graphics, up to 3GB of RAM, up to 120GB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.0, HSDPA or EVDO Rev. A, and your choice of either a 1.06GHz Intel Core 2 Solo or 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo ULV.

Prices start at around $2,500.

Evolution

Based on last weeks response to the question if we should have a job board for our community we have decided to add one. Not only are we adding one were creating one from scratch using WordPress. Once the code is done we will make it available to the community so you can add your own job board. It will be very easy to post a job and to keep track of the job posting using your RSS reader. Below is a preview of what it will look like…

Geek of the Week

Congratulations to this weeks geek Rinko. Happy Easter everyone. This weeks questions are…

1.  In Adobe Illustrator if you hold down the option key and click on the “Selection” menu at the bottom of a window what will appear?

2.  What does =rand(5,5) do in Microsoft Word?

3.  In Notepad save a file with just .LOG in it. Open that file again in Notepad and what will you see?

4.  What is displayed by Google calculator when you search for number of horns on a unicorn?

5.  What do all of these questions have in common?

Weekend Project

Last week we talked about quantifying our traffic, now that we have traffic it is time to work on conversions. If you have a business online one of the most important pages on your site is your about us page. If you do not have one then you should write one now. If you do have one then perhaps it is time to rewrite it. This week we will focus on tips on writing your about us page so to build trust with potential customers.

The following are tips for when writing or rewriting an about us page…

  • It should be easy to read and concise.
  • Include a brief overview of your companies history including when you started.
  • A break down of what it is your business does.
  • Mention any awards, certifications or qualifications.
  • A list of why a customer should use your business.
  • Highlight your values and beliefs.

If you do not feel up to the challenge of writing your about us page then hire an expert freelance writer to do it.

If you get stuck let me know in the comments.

Branding 101 – Law of Credentials

Branding 101The law of credentials means that your business is a leader of something in your business industry. If you are a business that has been around for awhile then it will most likely be easy for you to know what your are a leader in. For example I know we are a leader in Canadian cPanel hosting, we are also a leader in hosts that blog. If your business is not the leader in something then your goal should be to find something you can become the leader in.

Lets say you own a tire shop where you replace and repair tires. This industry is pretty generic and very few of the shops push as a leader in anything. As a new business owner you can create your own leadership. For example what if you create a service guarantee that no one else offers. Something like you will have customers in and out in less then 90 minutes or your service is free. If you are the only one you just created a leadership for your self. You can then market that you a leader in service guarantees in your industry.

Marketing that you are a leader means that people will be more opt to using your service. It is human nature to own what others own and buy what is considered to be the leader. Look at VHS as a great example of this. VHS was not the better product but was a leader in providing affordable units and was a leader in providing a large variety of movies that were made in their format. Beta format was a far superior product but never toted them self as a leader because they thought that a better product would just win in the end. Boy were they wrong. VHS gained ground with each sale and then the consumers made them the leader in sales and eventually put Beta out of business.

What is your business a leader in?
