Thanks, I've managed to fix it. Not quite sure how, but persistence is a wonderful thing! A new version of the flash uploader helped in combination with the other fixes.
Appreciate your help.

Sounds like it might be related to this:

http://trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6502

Keep an eye on that ticket for a patch to fix it.

The latest of both bowsers. Neither worked after initial install, then with the javascript fix Firefox worked but not IE7. IE7 did get a lot better but then we got a white screen on pressing insert - it's a common problem looking on Wordpress.org forums.

I'm able to insert images into posts fine with IE7. What IE and FF versions are you using?

I don't believe the problem had affected FF, since it worked for me when I tried it. Maybe though.

Thanks Matt, I had already done that which fixed Firefox for me but not IE completely (can upload but not insert into a post) for other users whose blogs I take care of. Pretty major problem for some!

Assuming you're using IE, it's a problem with WordPress 2.5, and has been fixed for 2.5.1. Until then, you can make two small edits in two files, as shown here:

Do you not have the image upload problem? I was thinking I solved it with some javascript changes but then thought it might be a server issue. But if it's working for you...
