On this beautiful Friday afternoon, you should be allowed to take a bit of break. There’s a good chance that you’ve been working pretty hard this week, so it’s only fair that you can take a little time for yourself, and there’s no better way to fill that time than to read up on what the blogosphere is writing about. Here are five posts to keep you entertained, informed, and thinking.

Miss604 has learned that the Greater Vancouver Zoo — located in Aldergrove — has been re-accredited by the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums, after going through significant troubles in 2004 concerning the living conditions of the animals. Things have changed a lot in the last 10-20 years and people aren’t quite as accepting of zoos as they used to be, so Miss604 poses the question: Are zoos good or bad? Is there enough of an educational and entertainment value to override the rights of the animals? Based on the current results of her poll, people still want zoos.

Fabrizio Pilato recently launched his own photo blog, sharing some of the snapshots that he has taken over the years. One of the coolest pictures that I saw on his blog was that of a Venetian man in his rubbers. I’m far from being a pro photographer, but I love the use of light and shadow in this picture, not to mention the fascinating expression on the man’s face. Nothing like trudging through nearly knee-high water.

Shaun Low found a nice little tool for anyone who drafts up their blog posts in Microsoft Word or another rich text editor before actually pasting it over to the WordPress dashboard. PureText lets you . As you know, when you copy and paste from a rich text editor, there’s a good chance you’ll end up with “numerous formatting errors and rich text code errors.” RichText fixes that for you.

Zac Johnson calls himself a super affiliate, but that doesn’t mean that he throws his money around mindlessly. Quite the contrary, because he has a proven strategy for staying in Vegas free during Affiliate Summit. What’s that? You didn’t know that you could score a free hotel room? How about a free dinner? Zac’s got you covered there too.

John Chow made over $30,000 last month from his blog, so it’s pretty clear that he has to pay income tax on that amount. Even if you only make a couple dollars from your blog, that’s taxable income, but making money from a blog has its benefits. John outlines the relationship between blog earnings and income tax deductions, reminding us that all expenses “within reason” are fair game.
