In The Sphere: CES Edition

Posted on January 11th, 2008

As many of you may already know, this week was the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Just about anyone related to the consumer electronics industry was in attendance, ranging from Alpine for the audio guys to Microsoft for the PC software crew. Other major companies represented at the world’s second largest trade show included Texas Instruments, Samsung, Sapphire, Corsair, and Intel. Many bloggers were there too, so let’s see what they saw this week.

Bob Buskirk proclaims that CES kicked his ass. In his own words, “After 4 straight days of walking from hotel to hotel for meetings and walking the show floor I am completely exhausted!” Yes, it’s a tiring experience, but also a richly rewarding one.

Jason Landals is a very brave man. He had the opportunity to have a deathmatch against the best first-person shooter (FPS) player in the world and he got off to an excellent start. In fact, he even fragged Fata1ity, sort of. Johnathan Wendel was obviously not pleased, so he came back with a vengeance. You can see it all through the embedded video in Jason’s post, and then you can Digg it too.

Beyond the Rhetoric has a series of highlights from CES, including pictures from the TTZ Kickoff Party, Digital Experience, and — yes — even booth babes.

John Chow calls himself the root of all evil, but he was all smiles throughout CES. I guess when there are open bars at all those invite-only parties, it’s hard to stay completely evil. John has compiled a video that depicts the sights and sounds of CES 2008, giving you a peek into what CES is like.

Last, but not least, is our only non-CES blog post. Darren Barefoot comments on the first NHL contract to break the $100 million mark. Of course, we’re talking about that monstrous Alexander Ovechkin contract worth $124 million over the course of 13 years. I guess he’s ending his career in Washington.
