Top 10 Must-Have Gadgets of 2007

Published on Dec 24, 2007   //  Gadgets

It’s a little hard to believe that 2007 is about to draw to a close, because it feels like just yesterday that I was trying to set up some new year’s resolutions. We’ve experienced a great year for technology, so let’s have a quick look at the top ten must-have gadgets of the year.

1. Apple iPhone: An obvious choice. With a fantastic user interface and a brilliant design, the Apple iPhone is easily the biggest success of the year. Homebrew applications and unlocking just made it that much sweeter.

2. Asus Eee PC: Perhaps the hottest item this holiday season, this budget-minded laptop is about as portable as it gets. And it looks great doing it.

3. Dell XPS m1330: The XPS line from Dell has always been known for its great build quality and the XPS m1330 notebook is no exception. The round hinge is quite the looker too.

4. BlackBerry 8830 World Edition: You don’t totally have to choose between GSM and CDMA technology, because this BlackBerry device does both. Too bad it doesn’t do North America-friendly GSM.

5. HTC TyTN II: Also known as the AT&T Tilt, the TyTN II is one of the best HTC smartphones ever produced. The spec sheet reads like a Windows Mobile wet dream.

6. Logitech diNovo Edge Bluetooth Keyboard: Who knew that keyboards could be this attractive and this slim? The diNovo Edge is one of the best feeling keyboards too, thanks to the softer keys and quick access keys.

7. Nokia 6500 Slide: This fantastic slider phone has enough consumer entertainment and enough business functionality to satisfy both markets. The stainless steel construction is seriously solid.

8. Apple iPod nano (3rd Generation): A great screen, video playback, and Apple’s signature click wheel? You simply cannot lose.

9. Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse: This is easily the most comfortable and powerful laser mouse I have used in some time. I particularly enjoyed the free spinning wheel.

10. Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC: Although you may not be able to buy it just yet, it’s great to hear that Dell is finally breaking into the Tablet PC market.

I wonder if any of these are going to be heavily discounted on Boxing Day…

We have collected the top 10 most commonly asked questions over 2007 to sales and here in no specific order are the top 10 questions and answers.

Do you have servers in Canada and can I pick where I have my site(s)?

This question I get asked almost on a daily basis. I know not many Canadian hosts have servers in Canada but we in fact do have servers in Canada some in Montreal and some in Vancouver. We also have servers in Texas and New York and Seattle. You can request where your site is hosted and we will accommodate your request space pending.

If I purchase monthly to start can I change it to yearly later and will I get the discount?

Yes and Yes. You can upgrade or change the payment terms at any time that fits your budget and site needs.

Is there any setup fees or hidden costs?

No we have all our fees listed on our site. There are no hidden fees.

Can I change my domain name after I purchase?

This is something we can do on our end. The process is simple just point your new domain to the proper nameservers and wait 24 hours. Once that is done open a ticket with our support staff and request the change from your current domain to the new one.

Do I have to buy my domain with you?

No you can purchase your domain anywhere you wish. If you do purchase your hosting and domain with us at the same time though we will ensure that the nameservers points to the proper server. If you purchase your domain elsewhere you will need to update the nameservers yourself.

What control panel do you use for your hosting?

We currently make use of cPanel for our hosting.

Do you offer your services in French? Spanish? Italian?

Our cPanel can be displayed in any of he above languages. We do not have any support staff that speak any other languages though.

Can I run WordPress, Drupal, vBulletin, Joomal (and the list goes on) on your hosting?

Yes you can and most of them are quick installs with Fantastico.

Can I run multiple sites on my hosting account?

Yes we do not limit you to the number of sites you can host in your accounts.

Can I have a test account?

No this is not something we are willing to do due to the security risks. We do offer a 30 day money back guarantee on all our shared hosting plans so you can test our service and cancel for a refund if you are unhappy with our service.

Discussion: Fear

Weekly Discussion

Do you live in fear?

You are exposed to 100′s of warnings, cautions and horrible news stories every day. You can not escape them it is on every medium that you read, watch or listen to. With all of these fear mongering mediums inundating you on a daily basis it makes me wonder what the effect is.

I have friends that live life in fear of the 0.1% or less. They change their lifestyle in fear that something could happen. I always live for 99.9% instead and choose not live in fear of something that could happen.

Can you think of something that changed your lifestyle because of the fear of the 0.1%?

In The Sphere: Lefties, Santa Claus, and Mountain Dew

Published on Dec 21, 2007   //  In the Sphere

If you’re anything like me, your Christmas shopping is all done and you will have no problem avoiding the huge crowds over the weekend as they fight for last minute gift ideas. I guess sarcasm doesn’t translate all that well in written form, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. If you manage to find some time between shopping blitzes, be sure to check out these posts from the blogosphere.

Derek Semmler is left-handed and while he’s proud of his leftie-ness, he’s finding that there are countless reasons why it sucks to be in the minority. In the interest of brevity, he’s narrowed it down to 5 reasons it sucks to be left-handed. Ever try buying a baseball glove? Be sure to read the whole post, especially the bonus reason at the end. It’s killer.

Robin Bal of Fortune Watch has put together an interesting article that addresses the issue of finding enough time in the day. If you ever catch yourself saying that there aren’t enough hours in the day, this post might point you toward a solution.

Four (or Five!) Reasons Why is a blog that’s filled with interesting lists, but they’ve got one list this week that is particularly timely. All the boys and girls of the world have sent off their wish lists to a certain bearded man in a red suit, but have you ever considered why Santa Claus has a terrible job? Mmm… lukewarm milk.

Optempo has a three-part series on using images in your blog post. The trifecta ended this week with a post providing various tips and tricks. Check out the other two entries — techniques and sources — for the full picture, no pun intended.

Bloggrrl has discovered a new way to celebrate the holidays. You don’t have to choose between a real tree and a fake one, when you give yourself the option of building a Christmas tree out of Mountain Dew cans. Do the dew! I’d say this is a Festivus miracle in the making.

Happy holidays, everyone!
