cPanel and Apache 2.2

We are rolling out a new server next week which will have have Apache 2.2 running on it. All of our current servers are running Apache 1.3 and have been for a long time. cPanel has just finally started to support Apache 2.x and it will be on our new servers moving forward.

Apache 2.2 is a more robust, reliable and secure build to the current 1.3. It will also give us an opportunity to start testing the subversion modules of cPanel with customers.

Wait I am a current customer and want these new features!?!

If you want to jump onto to this server (like Matt) to make use of the new features then you can open a ticket with the helpdesk on Friday (Nov 9) to be migrated over.

Our current servers running 1.3 will be upgraded in 2008 when we do the move from PHP 4 to 5.

  • Sweet!

    Subversion will be pretty sweet.

Will PHP 5 be default on this server?

Now, how about MySQL 5? :P

(and yes, you called me on that, expect a ticket from me on Friday :D )

  • PHP 5 will be cgi add-on.

MySQL 5 will be a long time from now. We tested it with Fantastico scripts and it blows up almost everything.

  • Well, at least it won’t be long before it’ll be default…

    Hmm… interesting…

  • Is the new server in Vancouver or Montreal (or elsewhere, just curious)?

Also, when should I send in the ticket on Friday, anytime, and how long do you approximate it would take to be moved to the new server?

  • It is in Montreal.

You can submit it whenever you want. We will wait until the server is 100% before moving you.

  • What’s the server’s name?

  • Buluku

  • What no bf-buluku.com registered yet? :P Actually, buluku.com is available too…
