DealDotCom WordPress Plugin - Beta 0.9
Posted on September 25th, 2007I think we are getting closer and closer to the end of the Beta. Some of these features were requested and now in version 0.9 are…
- A working locally cached version that upates hourly.
- Alignment of your plugin (left, center or right).
- Choice between a static or dynamic image.
The static image can be used by those worried about Opera users. The dynamic image changes in various widths and heights so there is really no way to control it for those using Opera.
If you are running any prior version I urge you to upgrade. To upgrade be sure to Deactivate your plug-in, delete it and then upload the newest version.
To install the plug-in you need to…
- Download the DealDotCom Plugin.
- Unzip the file and upload to your wp-content/plugins folder.
- Activate the plug-in in your WordPress admin.
- Customize the Plug-in on the Options page.
- Add a bit of code to your sidebar.php file or use the Widget.
Again this script is still in Beta so use at your own risk. If you find anything wrong or any suggestion feel free to post them.
I have also posted the full script here so you can view the plug-in.

I like the additional options - nice work!
One thing - I still have to manual update to get the new deal to show.
Did you deactivate the Plugin before upgrading?
Also, the time it updates depends on the minute mark that you activated the plugin on. For example, if you activate the plugin at :15 (hour doesn’t matter), the plugin will update at 12:16 AM Central (1 minute is added to the minute mark).
[...] DealDotCom plugin and Widget work perfectly to help us do just that! (Or so I hope). Idea behind DealDotCom is great – provide a great deal only for one single day and after installing DealDotCom plugin you can simply place Widget on your sidebar and offer the deal of the day to your visitors. See example on my sidebar and click on it to get your own free account. [...]
[...] Bluefur has come out with one sweet Dealdotcom plugin that updates the featured product every day. You can download the plugin here. Do note that this is version 0.9 beta. The programmer has already fixed many bugs prior to this version. He has been helpful in fixing my image width problem whenever I use Opera browser to view. [...]

I just installed the plugin and it is great, Thank You.
Only problem I have is that it cannot update daily deal, when I do manual update I get this errors:
Warning: file_get_contents() [function.file-get-contents]: URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /->server infoserver info<-/seojr.com/wp-content/plugins/dealdotcom/dealdotcom.php on line 69
I’m assuming it is because I’m hosting on Dreamhost.
Is there any way around this?
Thanks.
Your host has the PHP function file_get_contents() disabled. The DealDotCom plugin uses this function to get the deal of the day from the DealDotCom site.
I believe that your host offers custom PHP configuration files, but they’re meant for people with experience with *nix/PHP. Try contacting your hosts support about file_get_contents(), either that or drop in a cURL replacement.
Thanks.
Where do I drop cURL replacement? in which file?
Thanks.
If you’re willing to wait, the next version will probably be able to support cURL.
If not, you’ll want to change it in the functions activate_dealdotcom and dealdotcom_update.
I’ll try but more than likely I will wait for the next version. thanks guys for the great plugin anyway, can’t wait for the next version.
Great work. The plugin is working fine in all my three browsers - Opera, firefox and IE.
I think I got the update problem fixed now, but any idea how to get the right border to fit tighter around the images? Take a look on my sidebar and you’ll see there’s a white space on the right. Thanks.
Any info on fixing the white space to the right?
As the dynamic image is never the same size you will get strange looking images and spaces.
If you want to fix this you can set the ‘Static’ image in the plugin and it should fix it.
Looks fine for me… What Browser are you using?
