We have listened to your requests, suggestions and issues. With the help of several people the new plug-in has some great features worked into it. Some of these features are…
- Locally cached version of the daily deal. This will speed up load times.
- Manual update daily deal. If for any reason the update is delayed you can update it manually.
- Horizontal 468 X 60 banner option.
- DealDotCom Widget so you can add the banner to your sidebar using Widgets (this needs to be activated separately).
If you are running any prior version I urge you to upgrade. To upgrade be sure to Deactivate your plug-in, delete it and then upload the newest version.
To install the plug-in you need to…
- Download the DealDotCom Plugin.
- Unzip the file and upload to your wp-content/plugins folder.
- Activate the plug-in in your WordPress admin.
- Customize the Plug-in on the Options page.
- Add a bit of code to your sidebar.php file or use the Widget.
Again this script is still in Beta so use at your own risk. If you find anything wrong or any suggestion feel free to post them.
I have also posted the full script here so you can view the plug-in.
I would also like to send out a special thanks Rainer and Matt for helping with the current version.
UPDATE – I pushed out a small update on Version 0.7Â to fix a border issue and the cron update.
UPDATE - The cron did not work so I have pushed out Version 0.8.

Thanks for the update! It works great. I only have one very minor suggestion, and that is to center the text and product image in their respective table cells for the Basic Vertical Text style. Keep up the great work!

The cron must be wrong. We will look into it.
You can do a manual update. Login to WordPress admin and go to Options and click on DealDotCom. Click on Manual Update.

When I click Manual Update, I get this error:

We will be working on a new version to fix these 2 errors.
In the mean time try disabling the plugin and activating it.

Yep, re-activating the plugin seems to have changed it.

How can I left align the entire plugin in the sidebar? I still want the text to be centered as it is within the borders, but I just need to align it to the left of the sidebar.
Which line of code can I edit in the plugin to do this?

Hi, thanks for the superb plugin. This plugin works perfectly fine in my IE browser. However when I choose vertical banner, the banner does not display properly in Opera Browser. The width of the border stretch out (more than 148 px for width).

Is it the graphical or text version?

Hi it is the graphical version. The one with top gif and bottom gif. You may view my blog http://missylicious.com/blog/ with opera browser.

The border problem stills exist. The width of the vertical banner should be 148px, but opera is stretching it beyond 148 px.

This plugin works on WordPress 2.3. I’ve tested it on 2.2.3 and 2.3. It should work on 2.1, also. 2.0 is not supported because the pseudo-cron functions in WordPress were not introduced until 2.1.

Looks like there’s a bug with Opera and max-width:

I guess we can’t win em all, in order for these banners to function in all browsers Dealdotcom will have to have uniform image sizes. At this point, there is only one other workaround that I know of that will correct this problem, we could put an if statement in, if the browser is Opera, the image is disabled? Not sure that will work, but it could be worth a look.

@blogadmin– I thought someone has posted the work around in an earlier post. It used Curl or something. Did you try it, and fail? (If you didn’t try it, I’ll go back to the post and give it a whirl.)
blogadmin
September 25, 2007 12:44 pm
We can try it. Although I know Curl is usually not installed by default.
I think there would be less users who have the file_get_contents disabled.
Perhaps we can allow it to be manually set.
Lucia

I’ll check with my host to find out if I can enable get_file_contents! :)
Can you try an “if_function_exists”? Then, maybe you can get the program to work in the event of either/or. (Most people can’t modify their plugins, so that would see useful if it’s possible)

I’m getting some extra space in my widget along the border (see website). Any way to fix that? I’m also still wondering about how to left align the plugin in the sidebar.

Checking the browser can be a very messy thing…
We could just make all the images a square size…

I don’t see why your host wouldn’t enable it… They might even support custom php.ini files…

0.9 (will be out soon) should hopefully fix this. Temporary, at least. We’ve just made the cron go hourly, until I can get the daily one working…
This is exactly why this is still in Beta. :P
