Blog Redesign – Feedback Required

BlueFur Blog 2.0

As our blog continues to grow and grow it was time for a blog makeover to bring us up to the next level. The original free theme we modified has outlived it use and it is time to move on.

Our theme is being done by Designer Nate Whitehill. The above (click on the image for the full sized preview) is what we have so far. I would like feedback from you the readers on what you think in the comments.

  • Looks great!

You should use a newer Intel sticker, though. Such as this one:

    http://www.intel.com/sites/corporate/pix/badges/xeon/1_76.gif

    ;)

You know how you have the weather widget right now for Surrey, what would be cool is if you put the current temperature in that little blue space on the server front. You could get the temperature from this RSS Feed with PHP:

    http://weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?p=CAXX0318&u=c

Then use PHP to place the temperature in the little blue space. All on-the-fly. :D

  • I was thinking about having the intel stick a little CDN flag instead.

I was definately thinking about using that space for the display for random things but the weather would work to

  • I think that design looks great. Nate does some very impressive work. Matt’s suggestion about having the weather in the little blue space would be cool.

  • Can’t fit more than a few characters in there, what exactly are you going to display randomly that’s a like 2 or 3 chars? :P

Don’t some servers have a internal temperature on the front like that? I think the current temperature would work well there.

  • I was thinking it would be like the real server where the text scrolls :)

  • But like what kind of text? :P

  • It will be a surprise.

  • Hmmmm… the first thing I noticed is that many of the elements are the same as John Chow’s Blog – or is that the intention.

  • It’s the same designer so they are very similar feels.

I have tried to get Nate to do some different things like the icons.

  • That makes sense. I like it.

  • well If the concept works go with it. The nice thing about that design and Johns is it is easy to follow. I was looking for the first time yesterday at probloggers and I was lost in seconds. Way to much going on there in my thoughts anyways

  • [...] If you haven’t noticed our blog redesign now named BlueFur 2.0 is online. We do have a few small changes we would like to make to it from some of your previous suggestions. [...]
