In The Sphere: Entrepreneurial Edition

Posted on August 24th, 2007

More so than ever, people are deciding to not work for “the man.” They’re opting instead to start their own businesses and this phenomenon is most pronounced among generation Y. If you’re trying to make money online, you are not alone. Here are five posts that’ll probably interest the entrepreneur in all of us.

Cameron from Career Ramblings encourages you to enjoy your life and separate work from home. If you’ve got a home-based business like me, then I’m sure you realize the challenges involved with keeping “the office” as a separate entity from things that concern the home. Are you living to work or working to live?

Chris Bibey is a fairly successful freelance writer, but regardless of how much money he seems to rake in, he’s never quite satisfied. He poses the question, “Are you comfortable with your online income?” Some people may say that they just want to make “enough” to be able to quit their day job, but how much is really “enough”?

Dot com mogul John Chow has given his blog a complete overhaul, revealing an all-new theme that has been optimized for making money. His old MistyLook theme limited his cash-grabbing potential, so he enlisted the services of Nate Whitehill to get him a new one. The ad buttons in the sidebar alone will bring in at least an additional $3,000 a month for Chow.

Jane May of Daily Web Ideas has always been rather creative. Sure, you could try to monetize your blog like everyone else, but it would also be a good idea to explore different ways to make money online. Even if blogging isn’t your thing, there’s money to be made out there. You just have to go out and grab it.

Ashwin Khanna ran a bogus contest wherein he promised to give away $2,500. He got a whole bunch of backlinks under false pretenses and Phil Van Treuren of Contest Blogger hates him for it, going on quite the rant. In Phil’s own words, “It was a con, a sham, a lie, a complete crock.” But some good is coming out of this. Phil is turning around to provide the Ashwin Khanna revenge contest. This goes to show you that while it’s good to try to make money online, don’t lie and cheat to do it.
