Weekly Discussion

Can you imagine if that title were to become true?

Last week it was reported that bloggers are considering forming a labour union. I’m not making it up here is an excerpt of the full story

“a loosely formed coalition of left-leaning bloggers are trying to band together to form a labor union they hope will help them receive health insurance, conduct collective bargaining or even set professional standards.”

This leaves me with a lot of questions. Maybe you have the answers for me.

Does that mean that bloggers will need to pay dues?

If an advertiser didn’t pay me enough could we call for a strike? Can we expect a cost of living increase every few years from advertisers?

Will the union subsidize me during a strike?

What requirements would be needed to join the union? as well what would be required to stay in the union?

  • WOW they must be kidding. I’m very anti-union.

  • They have got to be kidding. If blogs go union, I will never read a union blog. This is the stupidest thing I have heard of in my life.

  • Lets have a look.

Could it be that these crazy lefty bloggers are paid by big companies to blog for them?

Could it also be that these bloggers are getting paid very little for these posts?. While the companies rack in huge amounts of cash directly because of the blogs these lefties write for them?

Maybe they(crazies) have realized how powerful a blog can be for a company. And now just want some extra cash.

But i agree with jeff and think. If they are talking about a Union like the ones we know of then they really are a bunch of crazies.

My one cent… Im keeping the other one.

  • You may have the right reason why, but if people blog for big corporations, they would be employees, would they not? If they are, they need to negotiate for better rates.

The internet becoming union in any capacity would be the end of the freedom that we all enjoy. Unions have a way of perverting everything they touch while they rake in the money that independent people no longer have access to.

  • Yes that is true..
A bad union will force any one who wants to be part of the company to be in the union, essentially cutting any one not part of the union from any moneys..etc, like you say. And thats not cool.

When i say they blog for the company doesn’t necessarily mean they are employees. (they could be, i dont know…)

For instance BlueFur as a great thing that for some reason no one uses.

In their BlueFurums, every time you post something new you get like 15 points, every time you reply you get 5 points. After getting 100 points you can get a domain name. 1000 you get better ..

Yet im not an employee for BLueFur (But i tell myself i am lol)..

Still i agree it with both of you..

I just like to find out the whole story first. ;)

  • No one forces them to have a blog or advertisements on it. This is stupid, and probably linkbait. I’m like, whatever.”
