Wordpress Wednesdays: Most Commented Plug-In

Posted on June 13th, 2007

The beauty of the Wordpress platform is that just about anyone can leap in and start blogging with very little technical knowledge. There are plenty of themes out there to choose from, so you can start blogging right away with a somewhat unique look. But… people who are a little more serious about blogging will want to participate in a heck of a lot more customization. To stand out from the crowd, you’ll want to customize your color scheme, toss in some cool sidebar widgets, and definitely update the banner image. As your Wordpress blog continues to grow, you’ll start to find more and more plug-ins that will be of use both to you and your readers.

One plug-in that I found recently was the Most Commented Plug-In by Spud Oregon of Nice4Rice.com. This funky sidebar widget goes great with the Show Top Commentators plug-in because it shows, as you can probably guess, the most commented posts of all time. Some may say that this is more representative of a particular post’s popularity than a simple view count. If people are commenting in large numbers, it likely means that the post was meaningful, useful, and/or controversial.

If you want to integrate this plug-in into a Wordpress Page rather than display it in the sidebar, check out Creating a Kick Ass Archives Page at Beyond the Rhetoric.
