BlueFur RBL Online

Last night we finally got our BlueFur RBL Online and setup on all of our servers. We discussed having our own RBL back in April and it received a bit of comments from our community.

If you would like to use our RBL for your own purposes you can add it. Our RBL is setup at dnsbl.bluefur.ca.

So now the question becomes how do we add IP’s into it?

We have built a script that will parse emails that are sent to it to collect the original senders IP. We will be adding a few trap email addresses to be crawled on our site so that the harvesters will pick them up and start spamming us. It feels weird wanting to be spammed when you try so hard to not be spammed.

It was suggested that we have a way for users to add IP’s to the system. I think this is a good idea and here is how I could see it working.

  1. Our customers submit an IP through a form.
  2. That IP is added to a database. If there is 3 or more reports of that IP in a 72 hour time frame the IP is added to RBL.

What do you think?
