VeriSign LogoToday VeriSign announced that there are pricing increases that will be coming in October for domain registrars. These price increases will affect both .com and .net prices for registrars to purchase. The increase is only 42 cents for a .com and 35 cents for a .net.

Our own prices through bluefurdomains.com will not be changing based on this price increase. Although you most likely will see the budget domain sellers increase their prices.

Budget domain sellers make money on volume and this increase may put their business in an increased pressure to generate revenue or even run them into the red. If you are with a budget domain seller you may want to ask them how this change affects your domain.

Domain Auctions?

Published on Apr 3, 2007   //  Emerging Markets

Domain AuctionsI was reading on several sites that domain auctions are currently a booming business. One auction site is making around $4 million a year in sales from auctions.

I myself have bought a few domains through auction and found the experience to be great. I used Sedo at the time and it was a pretty slick service they have.

The thought came to mind that there was no Canadian oriented auction service for auctioning domains. Would this be a service worth while or just reinventing the wheel? If we made it only available in Canadian Funds and only .ca domains would that be to niche?

Geek of the Week

Congratulations to this weeks geek Matt who is in the lead. This weeks questions are:

  1. What does WAP stand for?
  2. Who created COBOL?
  3. On Mac OS X what does the uptime command do?
  4. Name the 4 transport protocols supported by PHP.
  5. What is Yahoo’s equivalent to Google Adsense?

Moving to Cayman Islands

Published on Apr 1, 2007   //  News Worthy

Cayman Islands FlagAfter much discussion and debate the owner has decided for taxes reasons that we will now be incorporating in the Cayman Islands.

The decision was not easy but this means that instead of paying the 20%+ Canadian Corporate Taxes we would have to pay none. The Cayman Islands does not have any tax at all.

Operations will not be effected at all and servers will still be run in Canada. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to comment.
