BlueFur Remote Bluelist?

Spam

We make use of remote blacklists (RBL’s) on our servers such a spamcop.net to block 1000′s and 1000′s of emails per server each day. The thought occurred to me that those 100 or so that slip through to my own inbox could be added to our own RBL.

Do you think we should have our own RBL called a bluelist?

I haven’t looked into how hard it would be to set this up but it might be something useful.

Anyone have any experience creating there own RBL?

I also have our staff looking in to another Outlook tool which will allow for you to create your own social blacklists. More details on that to come later though.

  • I think you should make your own SPAM List, as long as you don’t rely on it solely (probably never get as big as the “standard” lists, no offense meant :P ).

You should also set up an email address we can send recommendations for additions to the list. Or, allow us to report SPAM directly to you through one of the Webmail clients (I’m recommend Roundcube, since it’s the best modern one, in my opinion, at least :P ). Also, a plugin for Outlook for us to report SPAM emails to BlueFur that comes through our hosted-with-BlueFur email addresses.

  • We’ll get right on that. One step at a time though ;)

    Any suggestions for RBL software?

  • I’ve never setup a BlackList like this before, so, nope, sorry. :P

    Maybe this’ll help you?

Oh, and RBL stands for Real-time Blackhole List, according to WikiPedia. :P

  • Great ideas.
But naming it bluelist to me sounds like its a safe list.
What about something like, huntedlist, huntlist, hunterlist. ?

  • BlueList, like BlackList, but Blue, instead of Black. :P

  • I think the that giving the list a functional name rather than a merely colorful name has its merits.
In this case the name will describe what the list intend to do. Colorful name does not translate to the functionality very well. For example blue beret associates with UN forces.
