Impending Death of Text Link Ads

Text Link Ads LogoOkay so maybe my title is a bit over dramatic. But after reading Matt Cutts blog today that title may come true. Here is what Matt said…

“One thing I heard at was that people wanted a way to report paid links specifically. I’d like to get a few paid link reports anyway because I’m excited about trying some ideas here at Google to augment our existing algorithms.”

So what does that mean to companies like Text Link Ads, AdVolcano and Text Link Brokers?

It means that the market could dry up and that they could be out of jobs. If sites selling links are reported and Google were to ban or not count the PR from those sites then most buyers would stop buying. Many of the top 10 sites on the most common searches use some type of purchased link SEO to get in those positions. I think if you were to eliminate all of the paid links counting to PR then you would see a very different search results.

Reading through the lines some may think it means that Google wants to be the only one selling links on sites. What do you think?
