It’s a must to have prices listed on the site.

Nothing is worst then going to a restaurant ready to order, and not know any of the prices.
I feel really embarrassed when i have to ask.. how much is this, or this, what about that one.

So for a website, i wouldn’t even ask.
Id go look somewheres else.

Even for services. Where its alot harder to tell how much something will cost. You should still give an idea of the cost, and in big bold letters explain this is only an estimate.

The one and only reason i wouldn’t post prices, would be if i wasn’t selling anything.

I’m with Matt, here: for standard products that don’t change between orders, the price should be made available. When you step into custom-made items, or servces, things change. However, having some sort of price range displayed is useful to get an idea of the pricing ladder of the company. Simply displaying a minimum might not be such a good idea, since people will assume that their own price will be close to that. Having some sort of upper limit gives people the chance of creating their own estimation, which would probably be more realistic.

Usually, if there’s absolutely nothing posted regarding prices, I’ll move to my next option.

I think that prices should be posted on sites for “static” products. What I mean by static products is for things that aren’t going to vary in price (eg. Hosting, Shirts, etc). Of course, they may vary depending on the plan/size/etc.

As for things like Web Services, I think some indication of what the price might be would be useful. An online generator for some things just won’t work, because the price depends on what the customer wants, complexity, size of project, etc. But putting something like “Are prices are the best in the business” is not good either. Maybe a minimum price or the Average prices of each service, depending on what the average between what customers have been charged for that service. But still putting something like “The price of the service you are requesting may vary from the Average Prices due to x, x, x, and x.”.

I’m not a fan of Websites that don’t post prices, simply because you want to know the price then and there, so you can make a decision, not wait for the Company to email you back the price.

I agree with think, If i cant find a price on a site they obviously don’t want my business very bad. Why would they make it harder for me to get the info i need?.

IF the prices aren’t listed my initial thought is because there higher then most. Just my 2 cents

This is something that I will forever sit on the fence about. For my own site, I do not post prices. Primarily because in the world of graphics and branding, prices vary so much. I have posted prices in the past, and run into troubles. Potential clients assume that if I say “Prices start at $50″ that it is gospel, and it’s difficult to tell them that their job will cost more. They are no longer interested. Truthfully, I give deals if clients may be down on their luck, or if I’m excited about a project and know they are on a budget. But I don’t to publish that. That being said, I do like seeing prices on sites. Especially if I’m researching getting a new product.

I’m looking forward to seeing what others will say abou this!

I feel the same, if I want info on a product, I consider the price part of the info I want. An online quoting system is not as complicated as people think anymore.

I will leave a site if I can’t find a price easily.
