Blue Fur

We at Manticore Media Group Inc. would like to announce the change of the name of our hosting business from MonsterHosting.ca to BlueFur.com due to allegations of trademark infringement.We felt that, rather than spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees defending our use of the name and possibly affecting our ability to continue to deliver affordable hosting and the excellence in customer service our customers are accustomed to, it was the best option to settle this matter out of court.Manticore Media Group Inc. and BlueFur.com will continue to strive to meet and exceed our customers’ needs and expectations. We look forward to marketing under the BlueFur brand and growing with the industry in years to come. As I am sure there will be many questions we have posted some of the obvious ones here:

Will there be any disruption in my service due to this change?
There should be no disruption to your service due to the change. Once we are 100% sure that the BlueFur.com domain is running at full capacity we will start to point the monsterhosting.ca domain to the bluefur.com domain. This should happen in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Why did you pick BlueFur.com?
Finding a domain which allowed us to continue using our lovable mascot was a tricky venture. We feel that BlueFur.com is a great brandable name that is unique and easy to remember.

Who brought these allegations of trademark infringement against you?
Part of our agreement states that we can not disclose the details of the agreement. Let’s just say that they are a very large US based company with deep pockets.

Does this mean you are going out of business?
By no means does this mean we are going out of business. In fact due to this legal matter we have spent very little time on marketing and branding. We look forward to the challenge of getting our new name out and making BlueFur.com a household name.

What domains does this effect?
This effects all of our ‘monster’ domains. If you use any of these services you should update your bookmarks:

MonsterHosting.ca -> BlueFur.com
MonsterDomains.ca -> BlueFurDomains.com MonsterAff
iliateca -> BBlueFurAfiliate.com

Is te any way we ce can he If you provide
ide lion your site to to MonsterHosting.ca we advise you to update and redirect them to BlueFur.com.

  • This is a almost unthinkable. Deep pocketed American Companies forcing .ca companies to give up their domain name? Can they legally own .ca domain names? Is there anything these Mega Corporations won’t do?

  • Do we need to change our Domain Name registration to new Name servers (NS1.bluefur.com for instance) due to this change, or will the older name servers continue to function?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

  • I actually perfer this domain over the other one. Good job!

  • [...] clear things up, Monster Hosting is now known as Blue Fur. I believe the promo code “JohnChowRocks” will still give you 15% off any hosting [...]

  • Rainer,

    An american company can not take your .ca domain unless they have a Canadian trademark. It does not mean that they can not sue you for damanges if you have US customers. Canadian courts will uphold and collect those damages.

  • Jonathan,

    We have about 20 customers that need to update there nameservers. We have already been in contact with them in regards to this.

  • I think Bluefur sounds much better than monsterhosting anyway. Creates a much better image in the mind of the customer!

    Good luck, guys! Sorry to hear that you got trod on by a true ‘monster’, with too much money to spend on lawyers.

    I’d certainly choose you over ‘them’ ANY DAY! Unfortunately, my own host is pretty good so I’m not likely to change in the short term!

  • If you ask me BlueFur sounds better than Monster hosting it doesn’t matter if there is no keyword (i.e Hosting) in it as it is it seems that search engines are not paing much attention to domain names

  • Monster Hosting changes to BlueFur

    Canadian web hosting provider Monster Hosting was recently forced to change name by another large corporation with the name “Monster” in their trademark.
    The case was settled out of court and as part of the agreement MonsterHosting.ca canno…

  • Were these allegations brought forth by *cough*HostMonster*cough*?…

  • No it will become very obvious who is the owner in a few weeks once the domain is transfered over completely.

  • Whoa, Network Solutions? But, why would they have a trademark for “MonsterHosting”?…
